The General
Purpose of the Project
The aim of this project is to breathe a new breath and perspective into ‘çeşmibülbül’, once a symbol of Istanbul which is inclined to be forgotten, and to carry ‘çeşmibülbül‘ into the future by creating new designs for all the industiries that are using float glass in their production.
It is a technique which originated in Italy and became one of the most important Ottoman Arts symbols in the era when the Ottomans were just begining to be influenced by the West. It was also a symbol of Istanbul in the Baroque Period. It became a connection between Istanbul and Europe.
The project consists of three stages. In the first stage, Turkish Art historians will reveal the history and value of ‘’çeşmibülbül’’. In the second stage both Turkish and foreign designers will not only create new designs but also look for the answer to “How can we carry ‘çeşmibülbül‘ into the future as a decorative element?’’. Prototypes of all designs will be produced. In the third and final stage, all the research and designs are going to be compiled in a book and will be distributed to the relevant establishments and corporations. An interactive blog page will be opened during the event for all questions, ideas and comments. We intend to carry ‘çeşmibülbül’ into the future by bringing a new approach to its traditional use by creating contemporary designs. As well as creating awareness about ‘çeşmibülbül‘, we also hope to contribute to the international competitive power of the related sectors.

Expected Results
As a part of the project, the prototypes of all the created designs will be produced. The designs will be printed using the digital glass printer and will then be kilned. The research center at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts Uni., where the project is taking place, will provide the service of digital glass printing to the industrial production companies once the project is finished.
